Principles and Techniques of Career Guidance Robison

VIDEO ASSIGNMENT

Each student will be required to submit videotapes of two separate counseling sessions that you conduct with your client. Each session must be a minimum of 20 minutes, and a maximum of 30 minutes, in length. Your use of Basic Attending Skills will be assessed in each session.

Video 1 Due: October 14

After completing your counseling session, review your tape and evaluate your session including:

· Did you cover the essential aspects of a First Interview in your session?

· Review each of the areas covered and comment on:

· How well did you facilitate your client

· What was your client’s response

· What was agreed upon

· What would you do the same or differently in the future?

Video 2 Due: December 4

Videotape one of the sessions in which you use one of the following techniques:

1. Goal Setting: take a client through the goal-setting process

2. Transferable Skills: take a client through a transferable skills exercise

3. Decision-Making: use a decision-making aid with your client

After completing your counseling session, review your tape and evaluate your session including:

· Was the technique you used appropriate for the session?

· How well did you facilitate your client?

· What was your client’s reaction to the technique used?

· What would you do the same or differently when you use this technique again in the future?

Submit your written evaluation with the videotape.
