Course Objectives

The course will offer a comprehensive study of the Spanish language from a linguistic point of view.  Students will be introduced to the terminology and theory of language analysis. Principles fo Spanish phonology, morphology, and syntax will be emphasized and contrasted to the systems inherent in English.  Regional variations of spoken Spanish will also be studied.

Activities

Daily discussions on assigned reading materials, exercises, practice and small group work. Periodic homework will be assigned.  During the last weeks of the semester, students will present to the class a summary of their term paper.

Grading:

  • Class attendance, daily participation and preparation 30%
  • Term paper (due Friday, May 16)  15%
  • Presentation on term paper  10%
  • Two Midterm exams   30%
  • Final Exam  15%
