Tasha Dev Alexander, Director

I started off my experience in Chico as a first generation college student living on the ninth floor of Whitney Hall. Five years later, I earned a BA with a double major in Spanish and International Relations (1995) before eventually earning my MA in Teaching International Languages (2001). My greatest academic accomplishment in college was studying abroad in both Mexico and Spain. This led me to serve as CSU, Chico's Study Abroad Coordinator for 13 years, during which time I was fortunate enough to travel and explore the world. My passion for TRiO was born when I relocated to Idaho in 2012 and served the University of Idaho as the director for TRiO Northwest Nations Upward Bound. Now that I'm back home , I am honored to be working with the exceptional staff and scholars of TRiO Student Support Services at Chico State. If I'm not in the office, you will probably find me out enjoying northern California's awesome weather and nature with my family and two dogs.

Megan Kurtz, Academic Coordinator

I grew up in Bakersfield, California attending local public schools and spent two years at Bakersfield Junior College before transferring to Chico State in 2000. I graduated with a degree in communication in 2004 and decided that the charm and unique energy of Chico was where I wanted to make my home and start a family. Guiding students to find what journey is best for them is a true passion of mine and I enjoy seeing people strive to reach beyond themselves to succeed. My husband, Stuart (also a Chico State Alumni), and I enjoy being outside in the open spaces that Chico provides. We especially like riding our cruiser bikes in the park and being downtown. Please stop by the EOP/SSS office and say hello. I would love to hear your story.

Thang Ho, Educational Data and Technology Specialist

I moved to Chico in 1996 and attended both Butte Community College and CSU, Chico. I graduated with a double major in business marketing and management information systems in 2002. My wife Laura and I have been married since 2004 and we have a wonderful daughter name Caitlin. We have been blessed to live and work in a wonderful community like Chico. Please stop by and say “Hi”.

Carol Robinson, Publications, Public Events, and Technology Specialist

I have been lucky to work for the Educational Opportunity Program for over 20 years both as a student and staff. I have a variety of duties including coordinating the EOP graduation celebration, producing EOP publications, and serving as an advisor for the Latino Graduation Celebration.

I am a Chico State alumna with a bachelor's in art with an emphasis in art history. I love being a mom to my twins, Maya and Kellen, and spending time with my husband.

Jeanette McMurry, Office Manager

My family moved to Chico in 1961. I grew up attending Chico schools and graduated from CSU, Chico with a BA in history and a minor in English. I have had the privilege of working as a staff member on campus since 1995 and am delighted to be a part of the EOP office and educational mission. I am very blessed to have four wonderful children, a darling daughter-in-law, and family and friends to laugh and love with. Some of my favorite things to do are reading, walking, singing, and bike-riding in Bidwell Park.

Kathleen Mcfarren, Administrator Support Assistant

I am originally from Sacramento and moved to Chico to attend CSU, Chico—and I never left! I love living in this beautiful big-little town, with its shady, horse-friendly park and an excellent university that I, along with my husband and daughter, graduated from. Our son is currently attending Butte College, and maybe he’ll end up here, too. I am new to the EOP/SSS family and am sure I have the best job on campus. Each day, I get to work with a passionate and dedicated staff of professionals and students. Plus, I’m meeting so many amazing and hard-working EOP and SSS students, who come by our office from all over campus to meet with their advisors and use our computer lab.

Student Staff

Rico Ramirez-ceja, Peer Advisor

Hey all! I’m Rico Ramirez, raised in the bay area and later moved to Sacramento. I am a motivated and ambitious first-generation college student. I have big dreams and have been luckily given the opportunity to succeed. I am the oldest of three and have many expectations coming from a migrant family. I am always eager and ready for new challenges! I am currently a 4th year student at Chico State with a Major in Biology and a minor in Nutrition. You may catch me spending my free time, Shooting hoops at the WREC, in the intramural fields playing some flag football with my buddies, or bicycling through downtown Chico.  I am very passionate and open-minded when it comes to helping people, students in particular. I am your Peer Advisor! You have questions? I have answers!

Sumanpreet Kaur, Peer Advisor

I was born in India and came to the United States in 1993. I grew up in the small town of Gridley, 30 minutes South of Chico. I am the oldest of three and the first in my immediate family to go to college and soon to be a graduate! I came to Chico State as a biological science major, then changed my major to sociology, and finally settled in kinesiology. My future career goal is to become an adapted physical education teacher working with individuals with disabilities. Being a first generation college student I understand that college can be an intimidating process. Working with SSS as a peer advisor allows me to help students be successful in their journey to become a college graduate. I try my best to encourage students to do their best in school. If I learned one thing from my family it is that education is very important. With knowledge you can go anywhere in this world. Everybody has the potential to be a college graduate. There are many organizations at Chico State that provide students with the resources they need to become successful students. Student Support Services is one of those many organizations, and I am very glad to be a part of this TRiO program as a student but also as a working staff member. I encourage you to come by the office to see me; I have a silly sense of humor, easy to get along with and love to meet new people.
