University's Needy Children Program
This program was established in 1990 to provide an avenue for the university community to help underprivileged children in Butte County. Each fall the Service Projects Committee works with the Children's Services Division of Butte County's Department of Social Services to identify the names of children in need. Campus departments, colleges, programs, and individuals commit to help these children by providing basic needs of warm clothing, shoes, and a few toys. In December 2007, seventy-eight departments, colleges, individuals and organizations from within the university and local community assisted 207 children and 91 families. An additional component of the program is to provide a food certificate to each adopted family. Once again, a generous campus community supporting the annual fall fundraising effort, provided $3460 in food certificates during 2007. The goal is to provide $50 to each adopted family.
