How To Contribute
What kind of contrubutions is STC looking for?
You can easily contribute to the Chico Chapter of The Society for Technical Communication (STC):
- By writing content for a particular page (get extra credit in class).
- By providing images appropriate to a particular page.
- By producing a Dreamweaver 4.0 page design.
- By doing research for STC.
- By organizing an event for STC.
- By writing a grant for STC.
Are there any writing conventions I should follow?
Please keep the page style consistent.
For text, follow the following guidlines:
- Limit font sizes in your text to three levels (for heading and subheadings)
- Keep sentences to ~17 words
- Keep paragraphs to ~ 35 words
- Keep online bulleted lists should usually be five items (+/- 2 items)
- Use single line paragraphs with a single space between paragraphs
- Use Arial for the online text font face.
Keep the page length limited to about about three "Page Down" screens for the primary public access pages. You should reserve long text passages for records (election returns), archives (minutes), or legal documents (Treasurer's financial report).
Communicate with an STC officer for advice on how to proceed if you are uncertain about anything. In the future, we will have a STC Web site Style Guidelines page to assist you. Dr. Price's Technical Writing Style Guide will be available online in the future. (See the Publications page. Click the "Library" button on the home page to go there.)
