The Chico Society for Technical Communication held its first general meeting
on October 2nd. Thank you to those who attended. Three new faces joined us
for the meeting, which I took as a good indication of continued interest in
our organization. At the meeting we discussed many possibilities for the future of Chico STC,
including a resource library, community outreach, hosting guest speakers,
developing a newsletter, and publishing a Web site. We agreed to focus on
two areas initially: a membership drive and a new meeting time.Membership drive: Since we've established that there is interest in Chico
STC this semester, it's time to get the word out about our organization and
what we have to offer. Expect to see Chico STC flyers, brochures, and
posters on campus in the next week or two. We will also use email
announcements and print advertisements to reach prospective members. You can help with this effort. Word of mouth is probably the strongest way
to bring new members to Chico STC. If you believe in the value of our
professional organization, please tell people about us. The more the
merrier.A new meeting time: We want to establish a meeting time that will allow the
most people to attend our meetings. Expect a meeting-time poll in the near
future. We have tentatively scheduled the next meeting for the week
beginning Monday, October 22.Again, thanks to those who attended the meeting, and to all of you for your
continued support.Sandoval Chagoya
