General meetings are open to ALL Members of the Community and Chico State students, students are not required to RSVP their attendance. We encourage everyone to attend.

6th Annual Human Trafficking Awareness Week

CSU Chico student-activist club STOP! (Stop Trafficking of Persons) will hold the sixth annual Human Trafficking Awareness Week in the CSU Chico Bell Memorial Union Auditorium Monday-Wednesday, March 27-29, 2017 from 6:30-9:30 pm 

Monday, March 27, 6:30 pm-9:30 pm

Monday evening with members of the local FBI as well as trafficking survivors working on trafficking task forces.  The focus of the panel will be to arm students, community members, law enforcement, and CSU Chico faculty and staff with the information they need to effectively combat modern-day slavery.

Tuesday, March 28, 6:30 pm-9:30 pm

Tuesday evening’s event will be the “Human Trafficking Training for Communities and Schools,” sponsored by the Central California Intelligence Center and led by Carissa Phelps. Carissa was trafficked starting at age 13 in Fresno, and has since written a book called, Runaway Girl: Escaping Life on the Streets. After her rescue, Carissa got her undergraduate degree from Fresno State, and went on to get a law degree from UCLA. She is now CEO of a nonprofit foundation, Runaway Girl. Participants will be able to receive a certificate of completion for attending the training.

Wednesday will be our keynote speaker, Rebecca Bender, who is a trafficking survivor and founder of the Rebecca Bender Initiative (RBI). The Rebecca Bender Initiative is a leading forerunner in the efforts to eradicate modern day slavery and change the mindset of our culture. RBI assists in crisis response assisting victims to escape.  What is more, RBI has some of the most advanced trainings in the country, equipping FBI, Homeland Security, Former Presidents, SVU & Undercover, Medical Professionals, Service Providers and Faith Communities all across America.
