Dr. Bassett's areas of teaching are direct practice with individuals and families, assessment, and theoretical models of understanding people, their problems, and how to help. His research has included study of anorexia in males, the impact of cancer diagnoses on families, clinical assessment in child protection investigations, rehabilitation models for street children in Latin America, and the social adaptation of oppressed populations.
Dr. Bassett began his university teaching career at University of South Florida in Tampa and joined this faculty in fall 2002. Dr. Bassett has clinical experience working with adolescents and their families, individuals facing varied difficulties often associated with prior acute trauma, depression in elders, overseas education, eating disorders, individuals with HIV disease, and psychiatric inpatients. While teaching full-time at University of South Florida, he maintained a small private practice in order to continue developing his clinical skills and understanding.
