Molly Heck has been a lecturer for six years at Chico State, her alma mater. She has taught a variety of courses for undergraduates and graduates in the School of Social Work, with a focus of supporting students in the field and connecting theory to practice. Her teaching in Multicultural and Gender Studies includes both introductory and upper division women's studies courses, as well as the MCGS Activist Internship course.
Professor Heck is currently the Associate Director for Catalyst Domestic Violence Services, a local non-profit agency serving people victimized by intimate partner violence. As a member of the administrative team, she directs the majority of Catalyst’s programs, and supports and supervises the staff within those programs. This includes emergency and transitional housing programs, drop in center services, the Domestic Violence Response Program in partnership with law enforcement, the LGBTQ+ Program, and the Volunteer/Intern Program, which includes Catalyst’s 24-hour hotline.
Prior to her role at Catalyst, Professor Heck was the program director for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Butte County and enjoys consulting work, including grant writing and training. She is an Advisory Board member for the AS Gender and Sexuality Equity Center on campus and enjoys supporting student activists. In addition, Professor Heck’s research includes feminism and feminist activism, violence against women, intimate partner violence, social justice, feminist leadership, and mentoring.
