Dr. Schuldberg first became involved in teaching through
the previous CETA program in the early 1980s in rural Indiana.
Her professional experiences include in-patient and outpatient
mental health services, children's services, gerontology,
and health with a focus on hospice care for over ten years.
In 1989, she began employment as adjunct faculty at California
State University, Chico in the departments of Sociology and
Social Work and Health and Community Services. She has also
taught in Women's Studies and Honors. She was hired as an
assistant professor in the School of Social Work in 2002.
Dr.
Schuldberg's research interests include immigrants and refugees,
multiculturalism and the teaching of cultural competency in
social work education, adult services and aging issues, and
mental health. Dr. Schuldberg's current work is with
curriculum development. This includes the infusion of gerontology
course content in the BSW and MSW foundation courses and developing
practicums in agencies that serve older adults. She
is committed to increasing the number of social workers trained
in gerontology to meet the needs of the growing population
older adults in the United States.
