Outstanding Faculty Service Award
The Faculty Recognition and Support Committee has selected School
of Social Work professor Jan O'Donnell to receive the 2006-07
Outstanding Faculty Service Award. I am delighted to accept their
recommendation.
The long list of her accomplishments is exhausting just to read.
Her colleagues and students rave about this rare individual who
gives so much to so many. Professor O'Donnell has served CSU,
Chico faithfully for over 33 years. Supporting documents for the
award, which read like a Who's Who of public service, include
pages of her various contributions to the School of Social Work,
the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, the University,
the community, and her profession. And she has accomplished all
with energy, dedication, and selflessness. She truly is an outstanding
University citizen.
Jan was the driving force behind bringing the Master's of Social
Work program to campus. Her tireless efforts included gathering
information, lobbying community and campus leaders, researching
data, and writing the accreditation documents. And she continues
to spend many hours recruiting new agencies and instructors for
this program.
Ms. O'Donnell has served as professor, adviser, committee chair,
Bachelor's of Social Work director, Masters' of Social Work director,
and department chair/director of the School of Social Work. She
has taught nearly every course in the undergraduate program and
led the school through four accreditation cycles for the BSW program
and through candidacy and accreditation for the MSW program.
Further, Professor O'Donnell wrote and received the Title IV-E
Child Education grant and the Mental Health Education grant that
continue to fund educational stipends for students.
It is for all these accomplishments and acts of service that I
ask you to join me in congratulating our colleague Jan O'Donnell,
this year's recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Service Award.
