LEARN about legislation that affects social
workers and their clients.
MEET Legislators and other important
political contacts in Sacramento.
NETWORK with social workers and "stand
up for others" on important social policy issues!
About Lobby Days
Legislative Lobby Days is a two-day event to help educate
students and professionals alike about important legislation affecting
clients and the social work profession and advocate those issues
at the State Capitol. Lobby Days is a great opportunity to learn
more about the legislative process and get the "hands-on"
lobbying experience of talking to state Legislators about important
issues.
Why Attend?
Many decisions affecting what you do as a social worker, as well
as the clients you serve, are made by the Legislature. Voicing
your opinion countsespecially when your voice is added with those
of other social workers. Lobby Days will give you the opportunity
to meet hundreds of social work students from across the state
who are as equally inspired and empowered as you to advocate for
change at a policy level.
There is just no other social work event of its kind!
What is a Legislative Appointment?
A legislative appointment is a meeting in a Legislators office
where you and your fellow social workers, as National Association
of Social Workers Advocates, can educate and lobby Legislators
on key issues affecting social work professionals and our clients.
You will be representing the California Chapter of the National
Association of Social Workers on specific issues of great importance
to NASW-CA. For example, attendees in previous years have advocated
against budget cuts to SSI, IHSS, and CalWORKs, as well as on
behalf of legislation calling for more funding for Child Welfare
workers and Universal Healthcare. Lobbying topics will be announced
in February and are determined by the NASW-CA Legislative
Committee and the NASW-CA Board of Directors.
