Normal Ave. Parking Structure - Lot Closed


We are pleased to announce that the schedule for the Normal Ave Parking Structure project has been moved up approximately six months. By moving the start of the project to August 2011, the 2nd & Normal Parking will only be closed for one academic year, instead of part of two academic years. Demolition and site work will begin in August. The demolition will consist of fencing, staging, and tree and asphalt removal. We have consulted with Wes Dempsey, professor emeritus of biology and the long time Chair of the Campus Arboretum Committee, regarding the tree removal. In these discussions, Wes has indicated that the trees slated for removal are not heritage specimens to the campus and were selected at the time with their location in mind. The project will add back some trees that are a better match for the space and environment. The Parking Structure will be open by August 2012. Construction of the building is estimated to begin September 2011 and be complete by September 2012. Parking lot changes beginning Summer 2011.

The 2nd & Normal Parking Lot will be closed beginning Wednesday, August 10th when the contractor mobilizes. (The lot will be available for parking today and Tuesday.) Accordingly, there will be changes to various other parking lots this summer to accommodate the loss of Reserved, Housing, and General Parking Stalls. The list below indicates the number of stalls that will be available in each lot after the changes are made.

2nd & Hazel Lot: R1 Permit (70), G/FS Permit (25), Reserved for University Advancement Visitors (5), Accessible (5), and Zip Car (1).

Cherry Parking Structure 1st Level (Changes will be made on the 1st level only): R2 Permit (141), Accessible (16), and Car Pool (12). G/FS Permit stalls will begin at the start of the ramp.

Stadium Lot: G/FS Permit (251), Housing B Permit (0), Accessible (13), and State Vehicles (4).

Chico Unified School District Lot at Sacramento Avenue & Warner Street (The lease for this lot has been renewed effective July 1st.): G/FS Permit (157), Housing B Permit (106), and Accessible (7).

These numbers reflect an overall increase of (27) G/FS Permit stalls, (4) R1 Permit Stalls, (84) R2 Permit Stalls, and (40) Housing B Permit Stalls. Permit sales for R1 and R2 Reserved permits will initially be made from the current waiting list.
