Walking is the healthiest and least expensive method of transportation to get you around Chico and the Chico State campus. The majority of campus population lives within one mile, which can typically be walked in 20 minutes or less. The campus's natural beauty and Arboretum make it a prime walking destination.

To encourage walking, lighting has been upgraded along major campus corridors and city footpaths to help make walking safer at night. The University also provides a "Campus Connection" escort service from 6:00 PM to 12:00 AM, 7 days a week. This service is provided to students, faculty, staff, and visitors as an alternative to walking alone on campus after dark. You can take advantage of this service by using the Blue Light Phones sprinkled throughout campus, by dialing extension 5555 from any campus phone, or by going directly to the University Police Department located on the corner of Normal Avenue & Second Street. For more information about the Campus Connections Service or Blue Light Phones, visit the University Police website.
