History of the Theta Chi house on 5th & Ivy

The house (630 W. 5th St.) was built around 1895. The original owner of the house (Adoniram Grant Eames, 1864-1941) was one of the city’s solid citizens. He was a city trustee and president of the Chamber of Commerce.

He was the founder of Chico Soda Works, which stood on the corner that is now occupied by Cafe Paulo and Tacos De Acapulco. Chico Soda Works also happened to be the birthplace of 7-UP and RC Cola.

A famous architect - Julia Morgan - remodeled the house about 15 years
after it was built. http://www.juliamorgan.org/story.shtml
