Independence High School
Our team is researching multiple aspects of the human brain and how the knowledge gained can apply to education. We plan to read a variety of literature, including Why Don’t Students Like School, attend various conferences focusing on brain research and literacy skills, and research various technological tools that will help improve our students’ literacy and learning experience. We have plans to collaborate with our local university, Cal State Bakersfield, district office, and other colleagues and community members (including brain surgeons) in order to gain further insight into current brain research topics related to educational literacy issues. Our specific goals are to help students improve reading fluency, college readiness, awareness of brain functions, and positive cognitive practices. We will present these findings to our colleagues in our school, district, and community through workshops, presentations, and media publications.
