Caruthers High School

The focus of the TBAR Project for Team #152 is to improve the science curriculum at Caruthers Unified School District.  The science education that students in Caruthers Unified are receiving needs a lot more science exposure and time, especially in their k-8 education.  As a result, the focus of the TBAR Project is to provide professional development opportunities for teachers in grade levels 5, 6, 8, 9, and 11 to improve their science teaching strategies, content knowledge understanding, and confidence. Examples of professional development opportunities include attending workshops and conferences as well as participating in collaboration meetings and teacher observations.  The anticipated results of these professional development opportunities include providing more hands-on and inquiry-based science experiences in their classrooms.  Additionally, increasing teacher and student confidence in science along with greater collaboration between teachers of different grade levels are also anticipated outcomes of the project.
