Law School Admission Test

The Law School Admission Test (LSAT) is a half-day standardized test required for admission to all 197 Law School Admission Council (LSAC) member law schools. The examination provides a standard measure of acquired reading and verbal reasoning skills that law schools can use as one of several factors in assessing applicants. The score scale for the LSAT is 120 to 180, with 120 being the lowest possible score and 180 being the highest.

The test consists of five, 35-minute sections of multiple-choice questions, including sections on reading comprehension, analytical reasoning, and logical reasoning. A 30-minute writing sample is administered at the end of the test. This section is not scored, but copies are sent to all law schools to which you apply.

The LSAT is designed to measure skills that are considered essential for success in law school: the reading and comprehension of complex texts with accuracy and insight, the organization and management of information and the ability to draw reasonable inferences from it, the ability to reason critically, and the analysis and evaluation of the reasoning and argument of others.

On the Test Date: Report at the time and location listed on your admission ticket.

What To Bring:

  1. LSAT admission ticket (or an alternative LSAC authorization).
  2. One current form of acceptable, personal identification such as a photo-bearing driver's license, photo-bearing student ID, photo-bearing employee ID, or a current passport. Identification must include a signature.
  3. Several #2 pencils and a good eraser.

Total Testing Time: 3 hours and 25 minutes of actual test time plus a 10-15 minute break. With administration procedures, the length of the test day may be 6-7 hours.
