Joel received his B.F.A. in Musical Theatre Performance from Northern Kentucky University (1995) and his M.F.A. in Direction from the University of Memphis (1998). He spent two years as Director of Theatre at Bethel College in Tennessee before coming to CSU-Chico in 2000. He teaches acting, musical theatre performance, musical theatre history and is currently the director of the CSU-Chico “Off-Broadways,” a musical theatre touring troupe that focuses on serving the Northern California schools.

Joel has been directing and musical directing for years and has been an active member of Actor’s Equity for several years. His favorite directing credits are Hello Again, Fiddler on the Roof, The Will Rogers Follies, and Tintypes. Joel is currently the Artistic Director for CSU-Chico’s summer theatre company, Court Theatre. Last summer he directed Side by Side by Sondheim and A Chorus Line.
