Chico Dance Theatre
Chico Dance Theatre (CDT) is CSU, Chico 's largest dance performance group. As a production arm of the Musical Theatre BA, the focus of CDT is on the students' growth as choreographers, dancers, and designers. To that end, the dances are almost entirely choreographed, directed, and designed (lights and costumes) by CSUC students. Chico Dance Theatre also prides itself on performing a wide range of dance styles (and music) including tap, jazz, ballet, modern, hip-hop, Fosse, various ethnic styles, and several musical theatre pieces.
Students who participate in CDT sign up for THEA and attend Friday afternoon class sessions (studying dance technique, learning a Finale, or previewing original dances for the choreographers' critique process). In addition to the Friday classes, the dancers rehearse in our dance studios weekly for each dance. This is in preparation for the critiques and runthroughs which precede "tech week" and the production of Chico Dance Theatre in early December of each year.
Chico Dance Theatre was created in 1996 by students searching for a dance outlet at Chico State . CDT Faculty Advisor and Theatre Arts professor Dr. Sue Hargrave Pate has been by the program's side, watching it grow and helping the student directors come up with new ways to improve dance in Chico , from its inception. one of the newest and most exciting of these ideas is the Musical Theatre Dance minor, a program which has attracted many dancers to Chico and to CDT
