Focus Group 1: Teaching and Learning – Managing and Delivering Content
Cindy Jorth reported.
Just started in the discussion area. Group 1 Discussion.
Managing and delivering Content has started
More to do online. Help invited.
Michael, Cindy and Laura contributed. Brian added today.
Use language not necessarily consistent with WebCT. How do we accomplish these tasks? Language in open source?
Focus Group 2: Program Assessment
Margaret Owens reported. We met on Monday and most members there. Conversation centered on assessment and can an LMS assist with that? Can LMS features help with assessment of student learning outcomes. Can LMS interface with STEPS? Can we embed assessments with shell level of a course not just course sections but at a higher level? Placement tests possible? Benchmarking? What does it really mean?
Baccalaureate as well as Graduate programs. These questions for the entire committee came forward:
Context NOT set for LMSes in general. Look at section, course, dept. and college level. How can a system like this be mined for the information wanted? Can data be extracted easily and at multiple levels? Can other software extract data?
Focus Group 3: Supportability & Sustainability
Brought in experts, Matt Philipps from TLP and Ryan Esposto from STCP. See Group 3 area in course for extensive notes.
Focus Group 4: Enterprise Needs
Met at lunch on Thurs. (I stepped out of the room. No notes.)
How do we weave student input into this strategic review? (Bev)
Faculty can help address this from their course experiences. (Brian)
Ryan Esposto and Student Computing has given input to Group 3.
Terminology:
Enterprise means a system on campus that lots of people touch often.
Association of users to courses, majors, options, departments, colleges, etc?
Question of System-wide standardization on LMS? No way we will all get pulled together.
Are there any ties to the Academic Senate to decide this? Cindy offers to bring it up, if we want. NO. Bill Post will want the committee to recommend to him, who will then go to Deans and Senate to, and B2000. Brian is involved in B2000.
Looking at the Evaluation Form for the general sessions, let’s pare down the questions in areas 3 & 4.
