This listing shows some of the topics TLP has offered workshops to the campus. All trainings are for current technology used on campus and are generally offered each semester. If something here is of interest or if you would like us to develop customized training then reach out to us.

Blackboard Learn - Gradecenter

Time: 1.5 hours

This scenario-based, hands-on workshop provides experience working in a live gradebook that contains enrolled students, activities, and grades. The materials were created so that a faculty member can enter the gradebook and edit freely without fear of disrupting an actual live CSU Chico section. Each faculty member has access to his or her own private section and may edit, remove or add data in order to experiment with the gradebook feature of Bb Learn.

Making Your Syllabus Accessible in Word

Time: 1 hour

We'll use the accessibility features of Microsoft Word to make course syllabi more accessible to all students. You should bring a copy of a course syllabus in MS Word format to edit and improve. An accessible syllabus checklist, complete software tutorials and more information about the responsibility of faculty to provide accessible documents are available on our Accessibility page.

Using Clickers to Engage Your Classroom

Time: 1 hour

Learn what is necessary to add iClickers to your classes. We'll cover how to access the software and an introduction to polling, participant lists, and reporting. We'll discuss best practices and things to consider when implementing clickers. To learn more about using the campus's supported iClicker system, contact Claudine Franquet at 898-5551 or visit the TLP Knowledge Base.

Adding Video Online to Enhance Student Engagement

Time: 1 hour

The ability to stream media from within Blackboard Learn opens up a new set of engaging teaching possibilities, from integration of video materials to enabling video assignments and sharing of student and faculty created videos. Tools covered include Kaltura Media and YouTube. Please join us for this one-hour workshop to learn more about integrating video into your curriculum. 

Google Drive for Collaboration

Time: 1 hour

Google Drive is an online collaborative office-like suite including a word processor (Docs), spreadsheet, and a presentation tool that faculty and students can use to collaborate and present content. This hour-long workshop is open to all CSU, Chico faculty and staff.

Twitter Basics

Time: 1 hour

Twitter, a very popular instant messaging system that lets a person send brief text messages to a list of followers, is now being used educationally. This hour-long hands-on workshop will teach participants how to get started, add contacts, and begin tweeting professionally. This workshop is applicable to all Chico State faculty and staff who want to communicate in a modern and innovative fashion.

The purpose of this workshop is to provide an overview of basic elements within Blackboard Learn.

This workshop is designed for those new to the Blackboard Learn or for individuals wanting a quick refresher. It is the recommended prerequisite for several of our more advanced Blackboard Learn tutorials. Objectives include:

  • Access BbLearn
  • Component identification
  • Adding content to course
  • Communication tools

This workshop provides an introduction to using assessments within Blackboard Learn.

This session is targeted to those new to assessing in Learn or for those wanting a quick refresher. Objectives include:

  • Creating a sample test.
  • Adding and modifying questions in a test.
  • Understand test options.
  • Grading tests through the Grade Center.
  • An introduction to Respondus.

This workshop provides hands-on experience creating, presenting, and grading assignments in Blackboard Learn.

This workshop is targeted to those new to assessing in Learn or for those wanting a quick refresher. Objectives include:

  • Create and edit assignments.
  • Building and implementing rubrics.
  • Previewing using Student Preview.
  • Grading submissions.
  • Download assignments for viewing offline.

  • Options for organizing content.

  • Editing and revising material.
  • Grading student contributions.
  • The student's perspective.

  • Managing groups.
  • Creating group assignments.
