TRIO SSS has partnered with the Department of Recreation, Hospitality, and Parks Management to offer academic credit for participation in meaningful outdoor exploration and service-learning activities in our state's national parks.
Field School is the cornerstone of our program's Healthy Active Lifestyles curriculum. First-year scholars explore our state’s national parks as a required Field School activity during their first semester at Chico State. Field School is also is a fundamental component of all leadership team trainings. Additionally, TRIO SSS scholars are given priority for additional free Field School excursions throughout the academic career.
Past field schools have included weekends spent in Big Sur, Lake Tahoe, San Francisco Presidio, and Lassen National Forest.
