University Communications

Ashley Gebb

Executive Director

A proud Chico State alumna, Ashley joined the department in 2015 and has led its exceptional team since July 2022. In her work with stakeholders, donors, and consultants, Ashley plays a critical role in our external and internal relationships. She also provides valuable communications support to the Office of the President and University Advancement, collaborates with partners campuswide, supports the implementation of the University’s Strategic Plan, and guides messaging related to public safety and reputational crises.

Previously, her work focused on strategy and implementation of storytelling and content production as publications editor and editor-in-chief of Chico Statements and Chico State Today. She also oversaw the comprehensive refresh of Chico State’s visual and narrative identity, guiding it through development, launch, and implementation. Her expertise in telling the story of this institution has not gone unnoticed, earning more than a dozen regional and international awards from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education for her writing, creativity, and strategic communications, and bringing recognition to Chico State in the process. Prior to higher education, Ashley worked as a reporter for several daily newspapers.

Ashley earned her bachelor's degree in journalism from Chico State in 2008. In 2023, she completed her master's degree in interdisciplinary studies, blending the communication studies and public administration programs. Her culminating project was Improving Crisis Communication Through a Trauma-Informed Lens: A Guide for Institutions of Higher Education.
