Community Service Officers (CSOs) provide non-hazardous law enforcement duties on campus. Tasks include parking enforcement, lot patrol, campus lock-up, Campus Connection transport service, dispatch assistance, and live scan fingerprinting. CSOs also work a number of special details alongside sworn officers, including graduation ceremonies, Halloween, and the local Chico Outlaws baseball games.
Why work as a CSO?
Community Service Officers get a rare view into the field of law enforcement. While working as a CSO, you will receive valuable work experience that will transfer over into your career in law enforcement (should you choose to pursue that career). When you graduate, you will have built a strong network of contacts and references. Thousands of people receive a degree from CSU, Chico each year. QULIFICATIONS 
Enrollment in CSU, Chico as a student.
Possess a valid California Class C driver's license.
Preference will be given to those applicants with prior law enforcement experience or those interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.
SELECTION PROCESS
Pre-selection Interview
Measures the candidate's ability to solve problems, communicate ideas clearly and effectively, and use sound judgement.
Final Selection Interview
Upon completion of the pre-selection interview, candidates will be recommended for a final interview with the hiring authority.
Background Investigation*
All candidates must pass a thorough background investigation that includes work history, criminal activity, and drug use.
* Prior criminal convictions and drug use do not necessarily prohibit employment. Each case will be considered separately. Failure to disclose such activities will result in termination.
TRAINING 
Community Service Officers receive ongoing training from Field Training Officers and other CSU, Chico PD personnel. The field of law enforcement is constantly evolving and the CSU, Chico Police Department strives to stay ahead.
