Presentation by Enterprise Ride Share – Two reps from Enterprise Rideshare, Maryam Amiri and Linda Lowry, presented a program they have called Van-Pooling. In summary, Enterprise Rental provides 7 to 15 passenger vans to groups who get together and commit to sharing the monthly expenses for getting to and from work. The vans are commuter operated, that is, someone from the group is designated as primary driver (with alternate drivers also). The vans are leased from Enterprise on a monthly basis (no long term leases necessary). The gist of the program is that several people (at least 7, as many as 15) share the expenses, which can be between 80 to 150 dollars per month, per person, they don’t have the wear and tear of their own vehicle, they are all fully insured, gas is included, maintenance is included. Detailed literature about the program is available by contacting Maryam Amiri at 916-480-4961.
In order to set up the program, Enterprise would need a database of faculty and staff addresses so they can first determine who lives within a reasonable distance of each other. These people could then be contacted to see if they are interested. Several places are doing this currently including CSU Fresno, UC Davis Medical Center, and Stanford. The transportation committee is considering this proposal at this time, and has been asked to spread the word to see if there is enough interest on our campus to get something started.
Update on Cal Trans Grant – Greg Francis reported the Cal Trans Grant, requesting $100,000 for a transportation study, was turned in to Cal Trans. We should be hearing something as soon as the first part of December. This grant is in partnership with the City of Chico.
Information regarding potential consultants – Tatiana Ahlstrand who is interning with Greg Francis reported she gave a list of possible consultants to Greg. Greg reported that if the grant is awarded, the City of Chico already has a consulting firm they will hire, and in fact, that consulting firm was written into the grant. If the grant is not awarded, the committee will look at possible consultants to help with our own study.
Roundtable/Brainstorming – The question as to where the committee should start regarding the bicycle policy rewrite was raised. In anticipation of getting the grant, or not, it was discussed that data should be gathered for whomever is brought in as a consultant. Tatiana is working on this already and finding out how difficult it is to obtain the data. It was discussed that the following steps need to be taken:
· Identify what data needs to be collected
· Begin to collect data now
· Identify what is missing
· How do we get what we don’t have?
· Cross check our needs with data the City of Chico may have
It was discussed that someone in Greg’s office may act as lead in this project. Tatiana is in her last semester and doing this work as an independent study class. Therefore, she plans to be finished by the end of the semester. She will share with the committee at the next meeting all the data she has been able to compile. She will also share with City of Chico.
Other business – Barbara Kopicki stated she was leaving soon, moving to San Francisco, and she said she was so grateful for the opportunity to serve on the committee.
Meeting adjourned at 1:50 pm.
Next meeting is December 7 at 1:00 pm in Kendall 107.
