The Chico Police Department has sent out a press release regarding a sexual assault that occurred on 01/25/2012 in the 400 block of East 5th Street. The victim is not a Chico State student. Please see their press release case summary:

"On 1/25/12 at 0236, Chico Police Officers were called to the scene of a sexual assault which had just occurred in the 400 block of E. 5th Street in Chico. On arrival, Officers contacted the 20 year old victim who reported that she'd been asleep inside her residence. She awoke to find an unidentified male sexually assaulting her. The victim's room-mate, who was arriving home at the time heard her yelling for help and chased the suspect from the scene. Responding Officers searched for the suspect over the several blocks but were unable to locate him.
Crime scene investigators processed the scene for evidence and the case will be investigated by the Detective Bureau. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Chico Police Department at 897-4911."
