Safety

In spite of the pastoral appearance and friendly atmosphere of Chico and its surroundings, the campus is not a haven from crime.

Please remember that:

  • Awareness is the most critical factor in the personal safety equation!
  • If your attention to surroundings is compromised by intoxication, fatigue, or preoccupation, you operate at a disadvantage and have a greater potential for being victimized.

The University Police Department offers several crime prevention programs and services to assist you.  Among these are the Campus ConnectionFreshmen Safe StartR.A.D. Defense Classes, and other crime prevention presentations which are given on an "as needed" basis.

For tips on general crime prevention, visit the SafeState website. You may also want to refer to the Megan's Law website for information on sex offenders and what you can do to help insure your safety and that of your loved ones.

University Police has several safety brochures available in the lobby in Yuba Hall (northeast corner of West 2nd and Normal Streets.)
