LIVE-SCAN:
"Live Scan" refers to the use of a computer-based device which directly reads the fingerprint patterns of a subject. The prints are collected into an electronic medium from a persons fingers rather than being read from a rolled ink card.  The fingerprint image along with the demographic information about the subject is immediately transmitted electronically to a central data-base for print comparison. Live-Scan results are usually returned within 72 hours.

ROLLED INK PRINTS:

Effective July 1, 2005 Penal Code section 11077.1 mandates the Department of Justice only accept electronically transmitted fingerprint images from regulatory entities performing background investigations of applicants. FD-258 fingerprint cards will not be submitted after July 1, 2006.

Fees:

  • $20 - CSU, Chico Police Department Live-Scan Service Fee
Varied - Department of Justice (DOJ) Live-Scan Fees vary. For more information, check with the agency (employer) requesting your fingerprints. (We do not provide Live-Scan applications)
