Who among us doesn't remember going with their parents to a fancy theater so see a live performance? The red velvet curtains, the dimming of the lights, the applause, the magic of live performance.
Chico Performances is offering several performances during our 2007-2008 season that can help you create this experience with your children. Share the thrill of live performance with your family . . . and create lasting memories for years to come.
Kick off your family visits to Laxson Auditorium with the Georgian State Dance Company on September 13, a troupe of performers who grace the stage at Laxson with colorful costumes, enchanting dance moves, flashing swords fights, mock battles, and energetic flying leaps and twirls.
In October, Chico Performances is presenting the Shaolin Warriors (October 6), known as the "king-fu monks." These true life warriors bring the remarkable skill, stunning movement and spectacular imagery of Kung Fu to life, including spins, kicks, high-flying flips and acrobatics.
Perla Batalla's "Discoteca Batalla" (Oct 11), is a multi-media musical presentation about growing up in her parents record shop, complete with Latin-themed music, percussion and vocals.
In a performance especially for kids, Chico Performances is bringing to life a musical comedy adapted from the popular children's book Miss Nelson is Missing. This performance is on October 14 and will be at 2:00 p.m. to accommodate a younger audience.
If your kids love comedy, Bill Cosby (October 20) is a sure bet. Cosby has influenced generations of adults, and sharing him with your children is a once in-a-lifetime-event.
In December, celebrate a true Celtic Christmas Eve, with Tomáseen Foley's A Celtic Christmas (Dec. 2), a performance that includes music, storytelling and dancing all with a Celtic touch.
With four performances in December (Dec. 14-16), Chico Community Ballet and Chico Performances will be presenting the holiday ballet Cinderella. This ballet is a perfect way to celebrate the holiday season, and has something for everybody with beautiful dance, lovely music, detailed costumes, and light, comedic touches.
Peking Acrobats (January 22) will kick off the 2008 year. This troupe of Chinese acrobats and juggling gymnasts have graced the stage at Laxson for 10 years now, and they continue to be a crowd pleaser.

February 5 brings Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, a comedic all male ballet. This troupe pokes fun at classical ballet, all the while making you laugh at their lively antics.
Kahekili Hawaiian Celebration (Feb. 19) celebrates the islands heritage with hula, chants and Island stories.
The annual presentation of Keeping Dance Alive! is scheduled for March 7-9, and as usual, will offer many different styles of dance ranging from jazz to ballet to hip-hop.
Peru Negro (March 25) is a high-energy musical and dance presentation showcasing Afro-Peruvian heritage. Colorful costumes, interesting, authentic musical instruments (the jawbone of a donkey, goats hooves, a box), and fast-moving dance will keep your youngsters entertained.
The beginning of April is loaded with family performances. Enjoy a classical ballet production of Romeo & Juliet, performed by the world-renowned Tchaikovsky Ballet and Orchestra complete with a live orchestra (April 1).
April 3 brings Shidara, a heart-pounding, rhythm stopping taiko drumming group, whose performance is a plethora of percussion, with the Japanese drummers pounding on everything from chimes and tiny drums to a drum that measures 6 foot in diameter.
For something different, AXIS Dance Company offers physically integrated dance. This performance, on April 11, is an internationally acclaimed dance troupe who uses dancers both in and out of wheelchairs, in a performance that is seamless and moving.
Ending the 2007-2008 season is the annual co-production between Chico Performances and the Blue Room Young Company. This year's production will be Seussical, Jr., performed on May 21.
