"The quintet seduced the audience with jokes, dancing and great music."
La Jornada
What do you get when you mix the shenanigans of the Blues Brothers with the musical seriousness of the Canadian Brass? Metales M5! Mexico's leading brass quintet rarely takes itself seriously, performing polished brass with fun, humor, and style. 007's theme song? Done! Classical, performed in baroque wigs? It's here. American Jazz and Argentinean Tango yup, included. M5 promises an evening of entertainment and great brass music like you’ve never heard (or seen) before!
In this evening's performance, "Music For California: From Spain to Hollywood and Mariachi" will be performed. This program contains music that was played in Alta California/Mexico, before and after it became part of the U.S. in 1848. This music was composed for the soundtracks of many of Hollywood's foremost films as well as including traditional, Latin music, such as Mariachi, that is so much a part of daily life for many Hispanics currently living in California today. With this touring performance, Metales M5 hopes for an unprecedented educational exchange between Mexico and the USA. All pieces have been written for, or otherwise transcribed and arranged for this performance by Alexander Freund, founding director/trumpeter of Metales M5.
This project received support from California Presenters; WESTAF, the Western States Arts Federation; and the National Endowment for the Arts.
