Course Section List E-mailing
Instructors may e-mail all students in a course section by formatting an e-mail address as listed below. By sending to this one address, the message will be delivered to the current preferred e-mail address of all students enrolled in the course.
NOTE 8-23-07: The Wildcat class list format has changed from SECTION_dept_course_section@mail.csuchico.edu to SECTION_dept_course_sec@section.csuchico.edu. See below for instructions.
To send a message to all students in a particular course section:
- You must be using a Microsoft Exchange client such as Outlook, Entourage, or OWA.
Using any other mail client will not work to send messages to the WildcatMail class lists. - Address your message to:
- the word SECTION is required as part of the address
- dept is a valid department abbreviation, for example, GEOG
- course is a valid course number, for example 309
- sec is a valid two or three digit section number, for example: 01,1A, 15R.
Please note that single digit sections must include the preceding 0.

An example of a complete valid e-mail address for a class list would be:
SECTION_GEOG_309_01@section.csuchico.edu
If a message was sent to this address, everyone in the GEOG 309, section 01 course would receive the message to their preferred e-mail address. You will need to copy yourself if you also want a copy of the message.
These e-mail lists are created automatically at the beginning of each semester and may change daily, depending on the class enrollment activity during the semester.
Please note: This method for e-mailing a course section will only work while a course is currently in session. Messages sent before of after the current term will return an error message.
