Outlook 2003 for Windows XP/2000
IMAP Setup
One main disadvantage of using IMAP from off-campus is that you will not have access to the Global Address list. Before setting up Outlook, you will want to make sure you can connect to the internet. Do this by opening Internet Explorer and going to the CSU Chico web site - www.csuchico.edu.
Start by opening Microsoft Outlook
Start > All Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Outlook

If Outlook asks you to set up your account, close that window by pressing cancel or the x in the upper right hand corner.
Now, Go to TOOLS > EMAIL -ACCOUNTS

Select Add a new e-mail account then push next.

Select IMAP account then push next.

Now, enter your name and email address. The incoming mail server is silk.csuchico.edu. Your username is your exchange/chico domain log in (your email address without the @csuchico.edu) and your password. Don't press next yet!

**The SMPT server is different depending on who your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is. If you use campus dial-up, enter silk.csuchico.edu in the incoming and outgoing mail servers. If not, see below for a list of common ISPs and their SMPT servers. Don't press next yet!
Mail Server
Provider Outgoing Mail Server
| SBC DSL | smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com |
| Digital Path | smtp.digitalpath.net |
| Comcast | smtp.comcast.net |
| Sunset.net | smtp.sunset.net |
| Shocking.com | smtp.shocking.com |
| Earthlink | smtpauth.earthlink.net |
Also, some of the servers require authentication. In order to use them, you need to click the 'MORE SETTINGS ...' and click on the OUTGOING SERVER tab shown in the screen below. Now check 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication' then 'Log on using' and put in the username/password for your provider. This is *NOT* your csuchico username/password; this is the password given to you when you signed up with your ISP.

Now you can press OK then Next, which will bring you to this screen:

You're done! You'll be able to access your campus email from home now! =)
