Spam Assassin Documentation for Outlook 2003

 

The new mail exchanger checks for SPAM and assigns one of two values to each message in the header:

spam: spam

spam: not spam

You can create an inbox filter to catch messages marked as SPAM. To do this, follow the documentation below:

* If you do not already have a Junk E-mail folder created in Outlook, follow these instructions: Go to Outlook Web Access and log in using your Outlook user name and password. Once you log in, A new folder will appear in your folder list titled "Junk E-mail". If you need instructions for logging into Outlook Web Access, go here. Close Outlook Web Access when you are done.

Step 1: Go to the “Tools” menu and click on “Rules and Alerts”


Step 2:  Click on the button which says


Step 3:  Click on the circle next to Start from a blank rule so that there is a black dot in it.  Make sure Check messages when they arrive then click on “Next.”


Step 4: Put a check next to where it says with specific words in the message header. Then click on where it says specific rules under “Edit the rule decription.”


Step 5: Type in “SpamCheck: spam” (without quotes) then click on “Add.” Click “ok” to return to the Rules Wizard. Once in the Rules Wizard, click on “Next.”

Step 6: Put a check in the box next to where it says move it to a specified folder then click on where it says specified folder.


Step 7: Choose your Junk E-mail folder and click “ok.”

Step 8: Once back in the Rules Wizard, click “Next” twice and then “Finish” and you will have created the filter.
