Bay - Campus File Server
Overview
The bay file server is split into two main sections: users and departments.
User Folders
Individual user folders are accessible through the main directory of Bay. These
folders are organized in alphabetical sub-folders corresponding to the first
character of the portal/exchange ID. Bay folders have a default size limit of
100mb. New faculty members will automatically have a bay user folder created.
Access to user folders is limited to the the individual user.
Department Folders
Department file storage folders are available on the Bay server with a default
storage limit of 500mb. These are located in the departments folder in the main
Bay directory. Specific department folders are located in descriptive folders,
for example, Telecommunication Services (TSRV) is a sub-folder located within
the Information Resources folder. Access to department folders is restricted
to the department Bay administrator and allowed users. User access to the folder
is controlled on a per-department basis by the department folder contact/owner.
Most often this is the department secretary. Mark or Andrea can verify the owner
if need be.
Quota Increases
A request for a bay quota increase can be made using a Bay
Quota Increase Form. This will need to be sent to User Services and be approved before the size limit
is increased.
Recovering Files
A daily back-up is created on DVD media. A request for file recovery can be made
through User Services.
Access and Credentials
Bay authenticates using the Chico Domain, so the domain username and password
must be used for accessing restricted folders. The server is available on the
Chico Domain,or through the address bay.csuchico.edu,
Bay can also be accessed off campus, but requires full designation of the address. The Macintosh user will use the "Connect to Server" option available in the "Go" menu of the Finder and type in bay.csuchico.edu. Users operating on a PC will the "Run" console available in the Start menu and type bay.csuchico.edu. Connecting from either platform will require [Exchange|Exchange] username and password verification. Note that it is necessary to designate the domain (Chico) before the username when authenticating on a PC.
