How to Read FTE Reports

FTES (Full Time Equivalent Students) are calculated based on the definition of a full time student as a one taking 15 units. To arrive at an FTES number, we first calculate SCU (Student Credit Units) which is the number of units for a class multiplied by the number of students enrolled in the class. This SCU number is divided by 15 to give us the number of Full Time Equivalent Students in the course. The FTES number you see in the reports for each department represent the total FTES generated by all the courses offered by that department.

The Enrollment column tells you the number of students enrolled in all courses offered by a particular department. This differs from FTES in that it is strictly a count of bodies and does not take the number of units for each course into account.
