Cheating has long been a reality teachers of all levels have had to deal with, from grade school all the way up, apparently, to college. In earlier years, cheating was pretty much restriced to copying answers. But with increased technology, cheating has taken on an entirely new personality. The Internet offers a host of web sites where students can get papers written for them, not to mention find so much information that it's virtually impossible to track plagiarism. ....
Attending grade school and high school is mandated by U.S. law. While cheating in these environments is an unfortunate reality, such behavior in college is inexplicable. The idea that anyone would choose to pay thousands of dollars to get an education, only to attempt to cheat their way through classes, is demonstrative of a complete lack of respect for professors and anyone striving for a fair and honest education. .... Students who cheat need to realize that college is a choice and if they don't want to do their own work they shouldn't be here. Welcome

This website is created by the Council for Promoting Academic Integrity (CPAI). We hope you find the content useful to understand what academic integrity is on the Chico campus and why it is important to the entire academic community. This website is intended as a single place to find out what academic integrity is, how it can be advanced and how we can all work together to make the degrees at CSU Chico continue to matter.

The students, faculty, and staff of California State University, Chico (CSU, Chico) are committed to a campus culture that fosters excellence in learning. Excellence in learning can only take place in an environment based on academic integrity and honesty. The long-term value of a degree from CSU, Chico depends on all members of the campus community participating actively in the creation and mantenance of a campus culture that cherishes such academic honesty and integrity. [Policy on Academic Integrity, June 24, 2004]

Academic Integrity Defined
As a member of the Center for Academic Integrity(CAI), CSU Chico has adopted the definition of academic integrity from the CAI.  Academic Integrity is "a commitment, even in the face of adversity, to five fundamental values: honesty, trust, fairness, respect, and responsibility. From these values flow principles of behavior that enable academic communities to translate ideas to actions"
Center for Academic Integrity "Fundamental Values Project" March 23, 2004
