Guidelines for Requests for
New Course Subject Matter
Area
A request from a college dean to add a new course subject
matter area and its abbreviation should be submitted to Academic Affairs (attn: Bitsy Wagner) after appropriate department and college review. A
brief rationale should be included in the request, as well as the requested
new, four-character abbreviation (e.g., UNIV).
If the new subject matter abbreviation is approved by the
Provost, a memorandum will be prepared authorizing the new abbreviation. Copies of the memorandum, which will include the HEGIS/reporting code for the new subject area, will be circulated to appropriate members of the campus community.
