GE Critical Thinking Assessment Project

How well do our students reason? Critically evaluate information? Assess arguments on important issues?   How does our GE curriculum help our students hone these abilities?  We need to know how well we are succeeding in providing our students with the high-level cognitive skills needed to be effective, thoughtful decision-makers.

This fourth GE Core assessment project will be informed by processes and procedures used in the first three projects.  In particular, the assessment of critical thinking will be a joint, collaborative effort of AURA and GEAC, with personnel from both committees involved in the process.  Additional faculty will be recruited to design and implement critical thinking assessment in a variety of GE contexts and courses.   As with the 05-06 projects, critical thinking assessment will be outcomes based and use embedded assignments in existing courses whenever possible.
