National Survey of Student Engagement
The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) is designed to obtain, on an annual basis, information from colleges and universities nationwide about student participation in programs and activities that institutions provide for their learning and development.
Survey items on The National Survey of Student Engagement represent empirically confirmed "good practices" in undergraduate education; they reflect behaviors by students and institutions that are associated with desired outcomes of colleges. In particular, NSSE benchmarks five effective educational practices: level of academic challenge, active and collaborative learning, student interaction with faculty members, enriching educational experiences and a supportive campus environment.
CSU, Chico has chosen to use NSSE to, in part, evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of its undergraduate experience, answer questions about student learning, focus campuswide discussions on the quality of education at Chico, inform internal academic program reviews, and inform evaluations of institutional effectiveness.
