Appointment of Chief of Police

The Division of Business and Finance is recommending the appointment of John Reid as permanent Chief of Police at CSU, Chico.

The Division of Business and Finance is recommending the appointment of John Reid as permanent Chief of Police at CSU, Chico. Chief Reid has been working on our campus as the Interim Chief since September 5, 2017. Prior to his appointment on our campus he served as the Chief of Police since July 2006 at CSU Channel Islands, the Chief of Police at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater beginning in January 2003, and before that as a Police Captain at the University of Arkansas. Interim Chief Reid has more than 36 years of law enforcement experience with 25 of those years spent in direct service to institutions of higher education. He holds a Master of Criminal Justice degree from the University of Cincinnati, a Bachelor of Business Administration from Cardinal Stritch University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. In addition, Interim Chief Reid possesses a Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Executive Certificate, the highest level police certification available in the State of California.

In consideration of the critical importance of this role and the proven leadership skills of Chief Reid in the CSU System, the intent is to transition him directly to the Chief of Police position at Chico State with an anticipated start date of December 27, 2017.
