Virtual Professional Immersion

What is Virtual Professional Immersion?

VPI is a method for teaching that uses instructional design with communication technologies to bring people together for a meaningful exchange of thoughts, ideas, and problem-solving strategies. This exchange centers on professional development and provides an opportunity for those who have practical knowledge to meet and interact with those who need practical knowledge.

The overall goal is to provide students with insight into the application of instructional design models, theories, and research as practiced in the “real world”. I use a combination of blended learning that provides students with brief scenarios (generated by our corporate and organization partners). The scenarios are designed combining cognitive apprenticeship and problem based learning principles. The students generate solutions to the scenarios, and upon reviewing them, our vpi partners present live and use the scenarios as an impetus for dynamic learning.
