University & Local Photographs

This photograph section of the site contains several photographs organized based upon what is in the picture. Each of these sections includes several images that can be used when designing Web pages. Web pages are enhanced with careful use of buttons, clip art, pictures, symbols and squares.

All of the thumbnails (small photos) that you will find in this site are the correct size to fit into the image column of the University Web Template.

How to use these Photographs
After viewing these pages of JPEG photographs, you can use these images in your own Web pages by copying and pasting the URL of the photo in to your HTML page. You can download the image as well but it is prefered that you link, using the URL, to the graphic if you are using the university servers for your web pages. This saves space on the server. Instead of saving these images to your directory, you can copy the URL of the image, and point to it as a link in your Web page.

For example, if you view the Meriam Library Photographs, and would like to display one of the images on your Web page, then you would do the following:

1. Navigate to the Meriam Library Photographs page. If you want one of the thumbnails displayed here, skip to Step 3

2. Click on the thumbnail image of the larger pictue that you want.

3. To find the URL of the image that you want to use, do the following: On a Macintosh, click on the image and hold down untill a menu pops up or on a PC right-click on the image, then choose the option to "open this image" or "copy this image location." If you choose "open this image," the photo that you wanted will appear in it's own window. Select the location or URL in the bar at the to pof your browser window and copy the image location. If you choose "copy this image location" you have already copied the image location.

4. To put this image on your page, depending on which html editor you use, you then paste the URL into your HTML page. The URL will look something like this:

<IMG SRC="http://www.csuchico.edu/weblogos/photos/mlib/thumb/mlib4.jpg">

When your HTML page is viewed on-line you will be able to see the image on your Web page.

For Example
The URL for the Meriam Library photo on the left is:
http://www.csuchico.edu/
weblogos
/photos/mlib/thumb/mlib4.jpg

In the above URL of this photo you can see that the photo is in the "mlib" (Meriam Library) directory which is in the" photos" directory which is in the "imc" (Instructional Media Center) directory on the university server.

Saving Photographs to your Computer

If you want to save the image to your computer choose to "download image to disk" or "save this image as..." instead of trying to find the images URL as in the third step in "How to use these Photographs" above. All of the photograph files are in JPEG file format..

Kathleen McPartland, editor of Inside Chico State, arranges for photographs of events or people that will appear in ICS. If you are a faculty, administrator, or staff member and would like a photo of an event, award presentation, speaker, or forum appropriate for ICS, contact McPartland at 898-4260 at least two weeks in advance. The publications staff does not have the resources to document every activity on campus. If something comes up for which you wish a photo and you have no camera available, call the University Publications Office, 898-4263, and the staff will do what they can, within the limits of time and resources, to accommodate your request.

Jeff Teeter, manager of IMC's Photographic Services Department, produces photo-illustrations for use in various university publications, presentations, and promotions. These services generally do not include journalistic photography. In addition to serving the visual media needs of the campus community, IMC provides photo, video and design services to other state agencies through inter-agency contracts.
