Coach Carnes now entering his third season with the Wildcats and second year as Head Coach, has extensive coaching experience.  From 1997 to 2000 he was the Head Coach of the Junior Varsity at Poway High School in the San Diego Area. In 2001, he started and was Head Coach of the Westview Girls Lacrosse Program in the Poway School District. Leaving Westview in 2004, he revamped the Helix Charter Program of the Grossmont League in San Diego and help lead them to their first League Championships.  Most recently (2007 to 2008) he was Assistant Lacrosse Coach at Chico State and helped create the Chico Rebels Girls High School Lacrosse Club. As Head Coach for the Rebels, he led them to an undefeated  Season with a record of 10 and 0 in League play and to a 5th place finish in the Northern California Junior Lacrosse Association (NCJLA) Tournament. He is now a Program Consultant for the Chico Rebels Club.

Coach Carnes received a B.A. Degree in Physical Education and a B.A. in Recreation Administration from California State University, Chico.  He got his Master’s from La Salle University in Public Administration. He worked for 30 years as a Recreation Therapist for the UC Regents, State of  California, County of San Diego, and in the Private Sector at Southwood Psychiatric Hospital in Chula Vista, California. He is currently retired from the University of California, San Diego after 22 years of service.

Both his Wife and daughter graduated from Chico State. His daughter, Vanessa, played four years on the Chico State Women’s Team after Red Shirting her Freshman Year. His wife Joan still resides and works in the San Diego Area where Coach Carnes spends his off-seasons coaching lacrosse clinics and leagues.

STEVE PEDEN

Community Liaison

 

 

 

 Steve Peden will be entering his second Season as a Wildcat Women’s Lacrosse  Community  Liasison in 2010. He will work primarily with everyday operations of the club. Peden is well known and liked in the Chico Community. He has been a resident since 1974 and business owner since 1980. Steve Peden will be a great resource and liaison to local businesses that will help and support the Chico State Women’s Lacrosse Program.

Jessica Calhoun

Assistant Coach

 

 

                 This is Coach Calhoun’s first season with the Wildcats after moving to Chico from San Diego with her husband, a Chico High alumni. Coach Calhoun started her lacrosse career playing for Poway High School as an attack-wing. In 2000 she was selected to represent California for the Women’s High School Nationals Game. After tearing her ACL she coached Poway’s JV Girls team in 2001 alongside Coach Carnes. She went on to coach Rancho Bernardo High School’s JV Girls team in 2002. Coach Calhoun is majoring in English at Chico State and works in the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office on campus. Coach Calhoun fell in love with the sport of lacrosse ever since she was introduced to it in 1997. She enjoys teaching new players as well as helping veterans improve their game.
