The cool and casual jeans and t-shirt look, accented with sneakers, hiking boots, and Birkenstocks, is characteristic of the relaxed Chico atmosphere, and continues, after countless years, to be the most popular attire of Chico State students. However, there are always those who shy from tradition.

Tie-dyed hippie attire is a favorite. Students can be seen sporting tattoos and piercings, and hairstyles range from short-cropped, dyed bright red to Rasta dredlocks.

The one fashion statement that all Chico State students make is the donning of a daypack over whatever else they are wearing!
