When students first arrive at Chico State, getting into the water is their first objective. Labor Day is a great occasion for students to flock to the Sacramento River to go tubing. Swimming holes along Chico, Butte, and Deer Creeks and the Feather River offer other means of cooling off. Students also enjoy hiking and biking on the trails that wind through Bidwell Park, as well as picnicking, and playing softball at One Mile and Five Mile Recreation Areas. Students are fortunate to have a plethora of AS. Adventure Outings trips available to them throughout the year, including during school breaks. Some of these trips are fairly close by, while others go as far as foreign countries. Mountain biking, whitewater rafting, hiking, backpacking, and skiing are just a few of the offerings. Adventure Outings trips afford participants meaningful bonding and sharing experiences in addition to the actual trip experience. During the winter months, many students head to
Tahoe or Mt. Shasta for skiing and snowboarding, while others prefer
the quieter snow sports of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in Lassen
Park or Butte Meadows. The winter rains in Chico When warm spring weather finally returns, getting out of the house and forgetting about finals for a few hours is definitely necessary! Participating in one or several of the numerous recreational opportunities available in and around Chico creates a balance for well-rounded Chico State students.
