The President's Award
Outstanding Academic Writing Award

PRESIDENT'S AWARD
This award is granted to the graduating senior
with the highest grade point average, which is based on the total
number of units taken. This award is sponsored by Food 4 Less
in the amount of $1,000.

Barbara Stengel
Ms. Stengel graduated summa cum laude in December
with a bachelor's degree in History. Since graduation, she has
worked as a substitute teacher for middle and high school classes
in the Yuba-Sutter area. Her goal is to teach history at a community
college. Barbara is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Alpha Theta
honor societies and has been a member of International Training
in Communications (formerly Toastmistress International).

Outstanding
Academic Writing Award
Each year, faculty university-wide are invited
to nominate outstanding academic papers for consideration of this
prize. From the papers nominated, the University Writing Committee
selects one that demonstrates writing effectiveness, clarity of
purpose, and impact on an informed audience beyond the discipline.
This award is funded in the amount of $500 by the AS. Bookstore.

Barbara Caneer
Ms. Caneer is awarded the l999 Academic Writing
Award for her paper, "Traces of Feminisim in The Rover," written
for Professor Mark Blackwell's course on British Drama. Barbara
is a graduate student in the English Department and plans to teach
at the community college level after graduating in December 2000.
Ms. Caneer returned to college after a long career in the business
world and has been writing ever since, publishing in Watershed
and other regional journals. She is looking forward to a new career
as a teacher and wants to pass on her love of writing to her students.
