Outstanding Scholar Athlete Awards

These awards are designed to honor one male and one female intercollegiate athlete who have illustrated excellence in their academic pursuits as well as in their respective sports. Students nominated for these awards by their coaches must have completed their athletic eligibility and carry overall grade point averages well above average within their respective colleges. The first $500 Scholar Athlete Award, named for Bud Hanna, is sponsored by Tim Hanna and Lindo, Hanna, & Abbott Insurance. The second $500 Scholar Athlete Award is sponsored by Barbara Marsh.

Scott O'Brien

Mr. O'Brien demonstrates an excellent balance of scholastics and leadership. Academically, Scott is an Exercise Physiology major with a strong record. Athletically, Scott was chosen by his peers to serve as the Track and Field team captain this year. Scott exhibits the qualities of a true leader. He is intelligent, responsible, and dedicated to meeting the needs of each player on the team. Scott is the number one discus thrower in the conference and has already met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard for the National Championships. He has served the community through his work with the Special Olympics in 1997 and 1998.

Christina Peacock

Ms. Peacock has an outstanding work ethic that allows her to excel in the classroom and on the playing field. Christina, majoring in Exercise Physiology, has earned recognition on the Dean's List each semester. Christina is a dedicated varsity athlete and is the number one runner on Chico's NCAA qualifying women's cross-country team. She ranked 51st in the country at the NCAA cross country championships and her time was only 30 seconds shy of earning All American honors. Christina volunteers with the Summer Adaptive Physical Education Program, at fun runs, and at local track meets. In addition, she is a member of the Chico State Transfer College Board.
