Organizations Over 4,000 students belong to the more than 250 Chico State student organizations. These groups represent every imaginable interestranging from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers to the Stock Dog Association and Habitat for Humanity to social fraternities and sororities. There are many advantages to joining a student organizationone of which is the sense of belonging. Another benefit is the moral support organization members and faculty/staff advisors provide each other. Organization involvement provides opportunities which help students prepare for their future professional lives. Employers look favorably upon job applicants who pursued extracurricular activities and held leadership positions during their college years. Students who invest their time and energy into these activities develop better interpersonal skills, more effective communication, and valuable teamwork skills.
