There is a lot of work that goes on during a girls' puberty ceremonial. Here a visiting archaeologist, Dr. David Carmichael (right), is pressed into service to prepare some of the song-counting sticks needed during the singing at night. Work of this sort is usually done in a family's camp-out area, here a tent.
